Ravi Kumar has so far never done a Hindi film. The film has heavyduty action scenes for the Big B as well.

When contacted producer T P Aggarwal confirmed, “Yes, Sanjay Dutt is doing an action film directed by K S Ravi Kumar. We’re also in advanced stages of talks with Mr Bachchan for the film. It’s Ravi Kumar’s first film in Hindi. But it’s an original subject. It’s not a remake of one of his Tamil hits.”

What clinched the casting combintaion of the Dutt and the Big B was the director’s formidable reputation.

Says Aggarwal, “Ravi Kumar has done a number of films with Tamil cinema’s topmost stars Kamal Haasan and Rajnikanth. In fact he was directing Rajnikanth in ‘Rana’ when the star fell ill. Almost all of Ravi Kumar’s films are big hits in Tamil. We’re hoping he’d deliver a big hit in Hindi as well.”

England manager: FA ready to draw up shortlist

The Football Association will meet on Friday to discuss a successor to Fabio Capello with a preference for an “English or British” manager.

FA chairman David Bernstein said he expected “to move quickly” but refused to comment on rumours linking Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp with the vacancy.

“We have to do it properly and get a shortlist together,” said Bernstein.

Goals under Capello

Current assistant Stuart Pearce will take charge of England’s friendly against the Netherlands on 29 February.

Following Capello’s resignation there has been a clamour for the new appointment to be English, with Redknapp backed by the likes of Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand and striker Wayne Rooney.

“No he will not definitely be English,” added Bernstein.

“Clearly there is a preference for an Englishman or a British person but in the end we want the best person. I am certainly not prepared to rule out anything but an Englishman or British person would have a good start.”

Earlier on Thursday, Redknapp said his focus was on managing Tottenham and that he had not thought about the England job.

Euro 2012 begins in 120 days from now on 8 June and Bernstein said the FA was the keen for the recruitment process to be done “properly and professionally”.

“There is plenty of time. Time for new man to get in place, do what he needs to do – we are in a better place than we appear to be,” added the association’s chairman.

“I am not going to get into any discussion on individuals. We will do this as quickly and as sensibly as we can do it properly and professionally.

“It will be interesting what we hear, and who comes to us. We will be putting a shortlist together and it will be a major priority for us.”

The four, in attendance at the news conference, who will decide who will take over from Capello are Bernstein, FA general secretary Alex Horne, FA’s director of football development Sir Trevor Brooking and managing director of Club England Adrian Bevington.

Harry Redknapp may have been in his trademark pose, conducting interviews out of an open car window many miles away – but in spirit he was almost in the room with the Football Association’s delegation at Wembley.

Fabio Capello’s decision to quit as England manager brought the world’s media to FA headquarters as chairman David Bernstein led the response with a detailed timeline of four hours on Wednesday that ended with the Italian walking away from his £6m-a-year post.

And throughout what was a measured and detailed response, Tottenham manager Redknapp played the part of the elephant in the room.

Capello was in charge of England for more than four years but stepped down from his position following a disagreement over the removal of Chelsea John Terry as his captain.

Terry was stripped of his role on Friday, 3 February and two days later the 65-year-old told Italian state broadcaster RAI that he “absolutely” did not agree with the FA’s decision.

The FA and Capello spent almost four hours in meetings on Wednesday, during which the Italian announced he would resign as England manager.

“The board made a very quick and unanimous decision regarding the captaincy,” continued Bernstein.

“I informed Fabio on Thursday evening as soon as the decision had been made. Fabio wasn’t happy but he accepted the board’s authority in the matter.

“On Sunday, Fabio conducted an interview with an Italian broadcaster. That caused conjecture and huge public debate and frankly it was an unsatisfactory situation.”

“We ended the day with a handshake and any reports of storming out are not fact”

FA chairman David Bernstein

He added: “We ended the day [Wednesday] with a handshake and any reports of storming out are not fact and a misrepresentation of fact.

“It was a very detailed meeting with a lot of detailed questions asked by us. We adjourned and an hour later I met, by myself, with Fabio. At that time he offered his resignation and I agreed this was the right decision for the FA.

“There was absolutely no ultimatum, the first session was a Q&A session and I left it for him to think about the situation. It was very much his decision. We went into the meeting with concerns but an open mind.”

Greece bailout: Eurozone ministers set new conditions

The chairman of a meeting of Eurozone finance ministers says fresh conditions will be attached to a 130bn euro ($170bn; £110bn) bailout for Greece.

Jean-Claude Juncker said the Greek parliament would now have to pass a package of cuts and reforms on Sunday.

In addition, Greek politicians will have to find an extra 325 million euros ($432m; £273m) in savings for 2012.

Greek unions had already called a 48-hour strike, beginning on Friday, in opposition to the measures.

Mr Juncker, the prime minister of Luxembourg, also said Greek political leaders would have to give “strong political assurances” that they will continue to implement reforms after a general election due in April.

“Despite the important progress achieved over the last days, we did not yet have all necessary elements on the table to take decisions today,” he said, referring to a plan agreed by Greece’s fragile ruling coalition after days of talks.

“All these measures are important to ensure a smooth implementation of the programme also after the upcoming general elections.

Protesters march during a rally against austerity measures in Athens on 9 February The Greek government’s latest austerity proposals have already prompted protests by unions

“These three elements, those I mentioned, need to be in place before we can take decisions,” Mr Juncker added.

He further welcomed “assurances provided by the Greek government that all the necessary elements will be put in place in the coming days,” Reuters reports.

The conditions would need to be fulfilled before Eurozone finance ministers reconvene on Wednesday, he said.

Toughening mood

Eurozone countries were also “seriously considering” creating a new, separate account for Greece, which would block a portion of state revenues to guarantee the repayment of bailout loans, EU economic affairs commissioner Olli Rehn said.

The Franco-German proposal is “one possibility for reinforcing surveillance and effectively implementing the programme,” he said.

The BBC’s Chris Morris in Brussels says that given the worsening state of the Greek economy, there is serious concern among European ministers that the overall plan for Greece – involving the new bailout as well as an agreement for private banks to write off a substantial chunk of Greek debt – still doesn’t do enough to put the country on a sustainable economic path.

Greece is trying to negotiate the bailout from the EU and International Monetary Fund (IMF).
